Saturday 13 Mile Run
Halfway there!! Well, almost. I ran 13.2 miles this morning, just over half the distance that I'll run at Disney in January. Woohoo!!!
The first part of this run was a 10k race put on by the Sunrise Rotary Club on Wilmington Island and by the Savannah Striders Track Club. I finished in around 58:25, or about 1 minute faster than my first 10k last Saturday at Skidaway Island.
For the first few miles my knees hurt a little, but once they warmed up it wasn't too bad. However, I can tell that I need new shoes.
I tried on a couple of pair at Fleet Feet yesterday and it reminded me what cushioning used to feel like. My shoes are pretty much wore out. I would have liked to have bought a new pair yesterday to have for this morning's run, but I new I could get them much cheaper somewhere else. I'm gonna order some new ones later this weekend.
Oh, I almost forgot. I had a really hectic time before the race this morning. I had planned to run most of my extra miles before the race but I got up late. I still got to the race about 45 minutes early, so I would have had time to run 3 or 4 miles before the start but... I lost the key to my truck!
I had jogged from the truck to the back of the school to pick up my bib, then jogged back to the truck to get my race number belt. When I got to the truck I realized my key had fallen out of the little pocket inside my shorts. Ugghhh!
Well, I walked back and forth between the truck and the registration table, oh I don't know, 4 or 5 times. I finally found the key, but by now the race was about to start. So I had to settle for running my extra miles after the race was done. It wasn't so bad though. I had wanted to finish and get home earlier, but this probably allowed me to run the race a little faster, so I wasn't all bad.
Well, that wraps up the running for week 8. Ten more weeks till race day. I better go take a shower 'cause I STINK!!
See ya!
