Tuesday Ride at Jimmy DeLoach Parkway
That was fun!!! I got to ride with a large group for the first time after work this afternoon. A group of riders meet each Tuesday near the airport to ride Jimmy DeLoach Parkway. And these guys don't play. They ride hard! If you can't keep up with the group there ain't nobody gonna wait up for ya. And if you fall behind, there ain't no way ya gonna catch back up.
I had heard about this ride before and knew they would be riding hard. I had planned to ride with the guys from work out at Hunter today, but everyone backed out, so I decided to give it try. I was really just hoping that they wouldn't drop me right from the start. I just wanted to keep in the main group. Well, I did. I held on as we cruised through 28 of the fastest miles I've ever ridden. We averaged 23.2mph including about 6 miles of warm up and cool down. We did 12 miles at over 25mph. Three miles we averaged over 28mph. The fastest mile was 28.9mph. That's not a peak, that's the average for an entire mile! The fastest peak speed was around 34mph!
I guess I'm a little exited. I just never thought I'd be able to keep up with these guys. I stayed right in the middle of the peleton the whole way, and felt good doing it. I didn't cramp, I didn't get overly winded. I felt like could have kept on going for another 10 miles. I only quit because I needed to get home.
OK, I guess that's enough ramblin' for one night, but dang that was fun!
