Still Ramblin'

Okay, I know its been a long time since I've posted, but I'm still here and I'm still running. In case anyone is still holding their breathe, yes, I finished the marathon at Disney. My official time for my first marathon was 4:33:41. It was really fun. There were a lot more spectators than I anticipated. Lots of HS marching bands, some soldiers, Disney characters, etc. I even passed Kyle Petty somewhere between mile 20 and the end. I guess he "hit the wall".

It was pretty cold at the start but warmed up quite nice by the end. I wore too much clothing, as usual. I had too many shirts tied around my waste at the end of the race but for the two hours I sat around in the parking lot waiting for the race to start, the extra warmth was nice. The worst part about wearing too much is that the shirts I tied around my waist blocked the view of my bib number, so the photographers weren't able to match me up with any pictures of my during the race. The only ones they posted were of me at the finish line.

Though I wanted to finish with a little faster, I've still pleased with my time given it was my first marathon. Well, that is I was pleased, until someone told me that Oprah Winfrey had finished the 1994 Marine Corp. Marathon in 4:29!! Needless to say, I've definitely got to run another marthon now. I can't let "The O" outdo "The Rambler"! Right now I'm thinking that the Marine Corp. Marathon in D.C. will be my next.
I actually found a couple of pictures of me during the race by searching the "lost and found" pictures on the website. The first one is me coming out of Cinderalla's Castle and the second one is somewhere in Animal Kingdom.

Well, after Disney I took two weeks off completely. No running, no nothin'. Then I sorta trained for two weeks and ran the Tybee 1/2 Marathon. Since Tybee was were it all started last year with my first race ever (a slow 5k), I wanted to end my first year of running with a bang. I was very pleased with my performance at Tybee. I finished in 1:56:48, just a minute and a half behind Representative Jack Kingston.

Well, since Tybee, I've been running and biking and swimming. I seem to have gained some speed I didn't know I had too. I ran my first full mile under 8mins a couple of weeks ago in Swainsboro with Heath. This Thursday I ran the second mile of a 4 mile run in 7:14! I'm hoping to work on my speed more and try for a good PR this summer at the Pine Tree Festival 5k in Swainsboro.

Well, I gotta get some stuff done 'round here, so...

See ya!
