Sunday Ride

Well, I rode 22.38 miles around Hunter Army Air Field (HAAF http://www.stewart.army.mil/) this afternoon with a couple of friends, Dane and Todd. We kept up a pretty good pace, with our average speed being about 18.7 mph. The weather was really hot and windy, especially on the first lap. I pulled pretty good at first, but near the end of the first lap, I was feeling a little sluggish. Todd turned back to go home after the first lap (he had already been riding a while when Dane and I met him). So Dane and I did the second lap by ourselves.

Well, I guess I shouldn't have complained so much about the heat during the first lap, 'cause about a third of the way around the second lap it started to rain. At first it just drizzled, and Dane and I joked around about how much cooler it had gotten. Then it started to just pour and continued to do so for the next several miles. I wasn't so bad, except it's very hard to draft the guy ahead of you when his back tire is kicking up a 10 foot tall "rooster tail" of water in your face. Anyway, we made it back to the trucks at the mall just fine, even if we were a little wet. Okay, we were actually soaked, but it was still fun.

No running scheduled for tomorrow, which is good. I think I'll enjoy a little break.

Catch ya later!
